Shawn Frankl Training Footage

Below is training footage of the number two ranked powerlifter in the world, Shawn Frankl (220).

In the video, Frankl works up to a 765 pound deadlift. Matt Kroczaleski is the only American 220 to have deadlifted more than 760 pounds in the past year (810 pounds).

Al Caslow to Compete on Saturday

Top 165 class lifter, Al Caslow, will be back on the platform on Saturday guest lifting at the IPA North Carolina Power Challenge in Hickory, North Carolina. Caslow will not make his usual cut to 165 and, instead, will compete at 181.

Currently, Caslow is ranked 50th in the world on the Powerlifting Watch Power Rankings. He has the second highest total of all-time at 165. His BIG teammate, Michael Cartinian, holds the 181 class all-time record at 2,260 pounds.

Caslow plans to open at 835 pounds for the squat, 525 pounds on the bench press, and a little over 635 pounds on the deadlift.

Also attending will be Big Iron Gym's Shawn Frankl, who will be handling Caslow.

North Carolina lifters LB Bullins (220) - going for a 500 pound raw bench press, Buddy Nichols (220), Jennifer Gonzales (148), James Gentry (shw) and Scott Metcalf (275) are among the 30 lifters registered for the event.

The NC Power Challenge is being presented by Gene Rychlak, Jr. in conjunction with Tribe Powerlifting of Hickory, Stratiform Strength and Conditioning of Boone, and East Coast Barbell of Kernersville, NC. The meet location is at the YMCA ont 701 1st St NW, Hickory, North Carolina.

Shawn Frankl Destroys All-Time Total Record 

Shawn Frankl (198) totaled 2,630 pounds today at the SPF Powerstation Pro-Am in Sharonville, Ohio. The total is a new all-time record, upping his own mark by 160 pounds. It is also higher than the 220 all-time total and ties the 242 all-time total held by Greg Panora. In addition, Frankl's total is only 40 pounds off the 308 class all-time total.

The total earned Frankl the lightweight division victory and a $5,000 paycheck.

Frankl also squatted an all-time record of 1,055 pounds. That eclipsed Sam Byrd's record by five pounds.

Frankl added an 825 pound bench press and 750 pound deadlift. He went eight for nine on the day with his only miss being his second attempt bench press of 825 pounds. He came back to hit that on his third attempt.

Brian Carroll Trains for SPF Pro-Am 

Here is training footage of Brian Carroll (242) as he prepared for the SPF Powerstation Pro-Am. The event kicks off today and runs through Sunday in Sharonville, Ohio.

In a highly anticipated showdown, Carroll will compete against Greg Panora, Jeremy Frey, and Chuck Vogelpohl at 242. Panora has the highest total of all-time in the weight class, Frey has the second highest total, with Carroll holding the third highest.

Al Caslow Trains for SPF Powerstation Pro-Am

Here is training footage of Al Caslow (165) as he trains for the SPF Powerstation Pro-Am which will be held August 21-23 in Sharonville, Ohio. Caslow will battle with Shawn Frankl, Brian Schwab, Michael Cartinian, and others for the lightweight division prize money.

In the video, Caslow squats 780, 810, 840, and 880 pounds. Caslow holds the all-time squat record at 876 pounds.

Jeffrey Begue (308) bench pressed 717 pounds on Saturday at the WABDL Great Lakes Regional Championships in Lansing, Michigan. The lift, which he hit on his fourth, ranks Begue 24th on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

In May, Begue joined Mike Womack as only the second person in WABDL history to bench press 600 plus pounds in four different weight classes.

Here is training footage of Shawn Frankl (198) as he prepares for the SPF Powerstation Pro-Am which will take place August 21-23 in Sharonville, Ohio.

Although no roster has yet been posted, the meet will play host to the best multi ply lifters in the country. At present, the 242 class looks to be the highlight of the meet. Likely competitors include Greg Panora, Chuck Vogelpohl, Brian Carroll, and Aaron Wilson.

  

Frankl, Cartinian & Wilson Train for SPF Pro-Am

Here is training footage of BIG teammates Shawn Frankl (198/220), Michael Cartinian (181), and Aaron Wilson (242) as they prepare for arguably the biggest multi-ply meet in the world, the SPF PowerStation Pro-Am. The meet will take place August 21-23 in Sharonville, Ohio.
Frankl and Cartinian are the fifth and ninth ranked powerlifters, respectively, on the Powerlifting Watch American Power Rankings. Between them, they also hold the all-time record totals at 181 and 198.

Jeffrey Begue Joins Powerlifting History
(600lbs. plus Bench Press in 4 weight classes)

Jeffrey Begue joins Michael Womack as only the second person in the history of the WABDL to bench press 600 plus pounds in four different weight classes (259, 275, 308 and SHW). The historic lift was recorded on May 16th at the WABDL Buckeye Hall of Fame Classic held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Eight WABDL lifters have bench pressed 600 plus pounds in three weight classes including Begue, Womack, John Erickson, Bill Gillespie, Matt Lamarque, Tiny Meeker, Ken Millrany and Jeff Peshek.

Begue opened with 601.8 pounds, then went to 626.0 pounds and finally hit 650.2 pounds on his third attempt of the day making him three for three with a new WABDL World Record. Jeff locked out a fourth attempt of 700.2 pounds but had the lift turned down 2 to 1.

Here is training footage of Greg Panora (242) and Travis Bell (275) as Bell prepares for this weekend's IPA Iron House Classic in Columbus, Ohio. In the video, they bench press 405 pounds, plus 260 pounds of chains and bands, off a three-board.

Ryan Celli (220) has confirmed that he will compete against Scott Rowe at the April 18th 3rd Annual USPF PowerPromotions Sports and Fitness Expo in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Celli owns the single lift USPF American Record bench press (639 pounds). Rowe held the record for a short time in 2008 before it was broken by Ryan Girard and subsequently by Celli.

Celli ranks third at 220, second at 198, and first in the 198 raw Bench Press Lifter Rankings. Celli also was named the 2008 Powerlifting Watch Male Raw Powerlifter of the Year and was runner-up for the Male Raw Bencher of the Year.

Celli: "Scott has asked me a few times if I would lift against him at 220. Scott said 198's are no longer an option for him, and even making 220's are going to be tough. I'm a 198er, but train around 215. What better time than now, to compete against him ...while he's hitting 730 on a 1 board!?! Damn! Could he break my record by nearly 100lbs?"

Here is video of AJ Roberts (308) squatting 925 pounds at the SPF Ironman Classic which was held on March 28 in Nashville, Tennessee. Roberts totalled 2,430 pounds to rank eighth on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings. He added a 750 pound bench press and 755 pound deadlift. Included is footage of his two misses with 975 pounds.

Greg Panora (242) squatted 1,060 pounds today at the SPF Ironman Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. He added a 745 pound bench press and is still deadlifting. Here is video of his squat:

Here is video of Shawn Frankl (220) winning the APF BIG Midwest Power and Strength meet's best lifter award. Frankl totalled 2,535 pounds, squatting 981 pounds, benching 832, and deadlifting 722 pounds.

Ryan Celli (198) deadlifted 710 pounds at the USPF Pennsylvania State Championships on February 28 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The lift ranks Celli, competing as a guest lifter, sixth on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings. Here is video of the pull:
